Malta National Aquarium St Paul’s Bay – What to expect

Malta National Aquarium at St Paul’s Bay is one of those places that you can take your children and explore the water world. I have been there a couple of times, and on the last visit we had I noticed few improvements, and obviously increase in the price. In this post I will cover some of the most common questions people have about visiting the National Aquarium and what to expect.

National Aquarium Review

The aquarium is located in St Paul’s Bay and it’s curved shell structure, resembling a starfish, houses a myriad of features. Boasting 51 expertly themed tanks, it showcases an impressive array of marine life, from Mediterranean fish to exotic species from the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the aquarium offers high-level education of underwater species.

At the entrance they give maps with descriptions of each location, as everything is divided in sections. They tried to be very creative and represent Malta’s nature all around, so there is Blue Grotto, Dingli Cliffs, St Paul’s Islands, The Grand Harbour, aquariums with different kinds of fishes. Next to each aquarium there are tablets from where you can learn about each specie of underwater life there is.

It can be really interesting exploring all around. The kids really like the underwater Tunnel as St Mary’s Statue aquarium. My son loved the Reptiles and Amphibians Zone, and I am always impressed to see the sharks and some of the big fish.

Exploring the aquarium will certainly not take a lot of time, I believe in 30 minutes you can go through all the aquariums and learn about the water animals there are. So for the price that needs to be paid, I really think is overpriced. But most probably it costs a lot all of that to be maintained.

Malta National Aquarium tickets

You can find much about the tickets on the official site of the aquarium, but on our last visit I had to pay more than 15 euros as a grown up, for my daughter of 2 years it was free of charge, and for my son up to 4 years I had a free entrance ticket that I have received from somewhere.
